EaSM Project: Aerosol-Cloud-Earth Feedbacks

The following lectures were given at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UC San Diego. This five-part lecture series is entitled "Fighting Climate Change with Air Pollution" and was given from April 5 to May 31 2012. The lectures were delivered by Dr. Lynn M. Russell.

Lecture 1: Introduction to Climate Change
Lecture 1 was given on April 5, 2012. It went over the basic concepts and physics equations governing climate change. Lecture 1 can be found here.

Lecture 2: Air Pollution and Climate Change
Lecture 2 was given on April 19, 2012. It includes a review on climate change physics, information on what aerosols are and how they affect the environment, and a critical review of Global Climate Models. Lecture 2 also included some information from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 2007 report and a demonstration of cloud nucleation. Lecture 2 can be found here.

Lecture 3: Looking at Aerosols and Climate Change
Lecture 3 was given on May 3, 2012. It includes a review on climate change physics, a review of cloud formation, and information about the results of a research project on aerosols called E-PEACE. There was also a demonstration of the importance of saturation and nucleation on cloud formation and a discussion on scientific skepticism. Lecture 3 can be found here.

Lecture Review Sheet
A review sheet covering the basic physics and concepts from Lectures 1 and 2 can be found here.
